Hello everyone, I’m Pastor Paul J. Bern, author and publisher of this biweekly blog, “The Social Gospel Blog”, together with the digital newsletter and You Tube channel for the Social Gospel Worship and Learning Center, a faith based Georgia nonprofit. This is an online-only, nonreligious, nondenominational faith-based community of like-minded believers in Jesus Christ, who is the Son of God. We invite like-minded believers to subscribe (see below)
First, the Definition
What’s the term Social Gospel mean? The term “social gospel” is usually used to describe a Protestant Christian intellectual movement that first came to prominence in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Those who adhere to the social gospel seek to apply Christian ethics to social problems such as poverty, slums, poor nutrition and education, alcoholism, crime, and war. Advocates of our movement interpret the Kingdom of God as requiring social as well as individual salvation and sought the betterment of society through application of the biblical principles of charity and justice. The Social Gospel is especially promulgated among liberal Protestant and nondenominational churches.
The Social Gospel Today
Today, the Social Gospel has been revived in the southeastern US and elsewhere across North America. Headquartered in Atlanta, Ga. and led by Rev. Paul Bern, an independent minister, this is something that can benefit a lot of sick, traumatized or otherwise hurting people. It paves a way forward to ending poverty and hunger as it reestablishes social and economic equality, but in the name of Jesus. We hold out an olive branch of peace and unity to those who have been driven away from traditional religion. We offer hope and mental clarity to the disillusioned, disenchanted and the disenfranchised.
Now you can go to church virtually, spend some quiet time in prayer and meditation, engage in Biblical studies, find solutions to personal problems, or tap into a little Spiritual wisdom without having to leave your home. Your car stays in the driveway. But equally important is the fact that this is a Social Gospel website, which means that I teach complete faith and trust in Christ from a modern perspective without the encumbrances of traditional dogma. Being Christ followers like ourselves also means that Christian faith plus anti-war and human rights activism go hand in hand. Under no circumstances will this nonprofit have anything to do with so-called Christian conservatism and other related political activity, since these things violate the Constitutional separation of church and state.
What’s In Here?
This blog consists of a Sunday message that usually posts at 6AM each Sunday on a variety of Bible-based issues that’s sure to educate and entertain all its viewers. I also use this blog as a platform that takes a stand against economic inequality, social injustice and for ending all wars. In addition, I’m the author of 8 Christian nonfiction books that you can view on Amazon ($18.95) from this link, where you can order direct from the author at a discount ($16.95 with free shipping) from webpreacher@yahoo.com or on Google My Business at https://business.google.com/site/l/01832834538876848585 A new website will be launched this coming summer as soon as I finalize some other things.
I’m Just a Servant
I do not get a salary or hourly wage for running this website, it’s 100% volunteer work. The same goes for my online ministry at “The Social Gospel Worship and Learning Center”. When I preach and teach at church online, I never ask for 10% of people’s income, although I will be able to begin accepting donations once the website has been constructed in January. I’m a disabled retiree on a fixed income, and I supplement that with a part time job playing keyboards at the other church I attend on Sunday mornings. My new paid blogs are intended to help cover the expenses associated with running a nonprofit, such as administration and office expenses.
